TANNED IN TUSCANY
Artisan tanneries in Tuscany, Italy treat the leather beautifully in a delicate vegetable tanning process.
When considering each piece in our collection we hold great pride in being able to find utility and create product functionality from a classic minimal design. The process of this design has always stemmed from learning about the characteristics and timeless qualities of choosing to work with particular materials. While seemingly simplistic in design, the thought process behind creating our drinks coasters has been no different.
We chose to work with a premium grade Buttero leather in a Chestnut Brown colourway, embracing it’s naturally smooth matt surface and incredible patina as it ages naturally across a lifetime of use.
Buttero is a 100% pure vegetable tanned full grain leather, taken from the strongest upper layer of the hide. The leather is not sanded, buffed or snuffed, keeping imperfections intact to create an incredibly strong and entirely natural material for refined craftsmanship.
Our Buttero leather is vegetable tanned in Tuscany, Italy, a truly artisan tradition that the Tuscan tanneries have held onto dearly for centuries. The colours enhanced through the vegetable tanning process give the leather an unmistakably warm and brilliant shade that becomes more intense with time and daily use.
The patina that develops over time is a natural process achieved through age, use, and exposure to sunlight. This gives opportunity for your leather to create a non replicable character, revealing the signs of time and use as the most personal expression.
With a beautiful leather like Buttero, it only makes sense to find someone devoted to the passion they have for their craft. A husband and wife team here in Liverpool, England, have been passionate about learning and evolving the ways in which they choose to work with leather for a number of years. They choose to only work with the finest of traditional hand tools manufactured in the USA, England, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan. The characteristics of their small workshop, where they have an opportunity to do what they love, and love what they do made these two a perfect fit.
